Christmas Tree is Taken Down at Missouri State University Due to One Complaint

A 20 foot tall Christmas tree was taken down Monday morning due to a Jewish staff member complaining that the Christmas tree was insensitive to other religions. A staff meeting scheduled for Friday morning was cancelled when President Mike Nietzel decided that although the college represents many religious institutions, the Christmas tree would be put back up in the main hall of the school. President Nietzel was happy to see the tree put back up with other religious decorations and the many other festive decorations around campus. Missouri State administrators believe that the Christmas tree is not a religious symbol but a festive decoration. MSU's Christmas tree did not bear any religious ornaments, so no one's rights were taken away.
